2011 Honda CRF450R – 1st Place – 96 Points Careful refinement to the CRF450R was enough to put it above the challengers in one of our most competitive shootouts to date. Complaints? Well, the Honda used to be renowned for its braking prowess, but now it’s only midpack, and the nimble handling can be interpreted as twitchy by some riders. That’s small fry compared to the fact that it is clearly the lightest, most compact, quietest and surprisingly fast bike in the group. It’s surprising because the CRF allows its pilot to ride it hard without extracting much energy. The chassis and suspension woes of 2009/2010 are no longer an excuse, and the
Honda proved it has the hard numbers to back up our rider impressions with top scores in the objective and subjective score sheets. Three riders picked the Honda as the bike they would spend their own money on, but it didn’t even need the extra credit to win this year’s shootout.
